Tyson Gillies - World Baseball Classic 2013

This won’t be the first time Tyson Gillies wears the Maple Leaf.

The left handed hittter is a Vancouver native that played for the Canadian National team while at RE Mountain Secondary in Langley, BC.

A current member of the Reading Phillies (Phillies AA affiliate) Gillies hit. 304 last season in 68 games with 13 doubles, eight triples, four homers and 24 RBIs.

The speedy centerfielder was acquired by the Phillies from the Seattle Mariners with pitchers Phillipe Aumont and JC Ramirez for pitcher Cliff Lee in December of 2009.

Gillies, 24, was selected by the Mariners in the 25th round of the 2006 draft after a breakout year at Iowa Western Community College.

Gillies, who is deaf, will wear #24 for Team Canada at the World Baseball Classic which begins on Friday March 8 against Italy.
