Baseball BC, BC (Minor) Baseball and Coquitlam-Moody Minor Baseball have been informed today that Randy Downes, President of Coquitlam-Moody and a long-time baseball coach, has been arrested and is facing nine criminal charges involving young people.
Baseball BC, BC (Minor) Baseball and Coquitlam-Moody Minor Baseball will not be commenting on the charges themselves, as the matter is before the courts.
Coquitlam-Moody Minor Baseball has suspended Randy from all baseball, volunteer and board activity, effective immediately.
After consulting with the RCMP, we have no information on any individual alleged victims involved with baseball. Should we become aware of any individual potential victims, we will try to assist them in accessing all appropriate resources.
Consistent with Baseball BC and BC (Minor) Baseball policies, Coquitlam-Moody Minor Baseball requires criminal record checks from all its coaches. Randy Downes has complied with this requirement.
The RCMP will be holding a press conference this afternoon. They are expected to encourage parents and anyone else who may have relevant knowledge or have questions, to contact the RCMP.
Baseball BC, BC (Minor) Baseball and Coquitlam-Moody Baseball place a high priority on all aspects of safety when young people participate in sports.

In light of serious criminal charges against Mr. Randy Downes, Baseball BC will not permit Mr. Downes to coach, administer or otherwise take part in any Baseball BC associated activities indefinitely. Baseball BC asks all baseball organizations in the province to adopt the same approach.
