Midget AAA Nationals Report - Day 2

Team BC showed the flare for the dramatic on Friday at the Midget AAA National Championships, beating Team Alberta in the bottom of the seventh 5-4.

Alberta would jump out to a 3-0 lead after three innings, scoring a pair of runs in the second, and one more in the third off BC starter, Devon Geary (Ladysmith).  All three runs were unearned.

BC finally would get to the Alberta starter in the bottom of the fifth scoring four times.  They would load the bases with just one down, when a wild pitch would score Spencer Scotney (Victoria).  Two batters later a throwing error would allow Rees Weninger (Kelowna) and Michael Gilfillan (Kamloops) to score.

After a pitching change BC would again load the bases when Matt Strother (Maple Ridge) was hit by a pitch to score Colin Rintoul (Kamloops).

Alberta would tie it at four in the top of the sixth, setting the stages for a BC walk off in the seventh.

With one out in the bottom of the seventh Lucas Lapinski (Victoria) and Hunter Robinson (Vancouver) would get back to back singles.  The next batter Strother would record the game winning hit scoring Lapinski.

Mike Rogers (Chilliwack) recording the win for BC out of the pen.  He would throw just one inning, striking out two.  Geary would throw the first six innings, scattering six hits, and allowing four unearned runs.

On Saturday BC (2-0) will face Prince Edward Island (1-2), who fell to Quebec on Friday.  Game time is set for 2:30pm.
