Four BC Players Drafted

Four players from Baseball BC programs were selected in the most recent Major League Baseball Draft.

The top BC player to be selected was third baseman Mitchell Robinson from Surrey.   The National Junior team member and Langley Blaze was selected in the 22nd round by the Miami Marlins, 647th overall.  In 17 games with the Blaze this season he is hitting .321 with four doubles and nine RBIs.

Then in the 31st round left handed pitcher Kurtis Horne out of Sooke was selected by the New York Mets.  Horne is a member of the Langley Blaze and the National Junior team.  He is currently 1-0 with a 1.07 ERA in 13 innings and has struck out eight.

Right handed pitcher Cody Chartrand (pictured) was drafted 1086th overall in the 36th round by the Texas Rangers.  The Nanaimo native finished 5-0 with a 1.94 ERA with Lewis & Clark College this past year in 41.2 innings.

The final BC born player to be selected in the MLB draft was short stop Brad Antchak from Delta.  The Houston Astros selected him in the 39th round out of Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.  In his freshman year he hit .295 in 132 at bats with eight doubles, four triples and 29 RBIs.  He also led the team by walking 26 times and swiped 16
