In the latter stages of November Jordan Zazulak, 17, of the Coquitlam Reds in the BCPBL became the #1 ranked player in North America, during the SPARQ testing.
SPARQ stands for Speed, Power, Agility, Reaction, and Quickness. SPARQ (Nike owned company) is committed to helping athletes improves these five aspects of their athletic ability in order to take their game to that next level.
Eric Trice of Trice Athletics administered the testing of Jordan in Eugene, Oregon on November 11, 2012. He had this to say about Jordan, “Only on rare occasions do you find and athletes like Jordan Zazulak. Hands down, Jordan is one of the most powerful and explosive athletes that I have ever tested, and I have tested some of the best athletes in baseball including Jacoby Ellsbury (Boston Red Sox) and Eric Young Jr (Colorado Rockies).
Here is how Jordan tested:
60YD Dash: 6.87 sec
30YD Dash: 3.95 sec
Vertical Jump: 38.8 Inches
Shuttle: 4.29 sec
Powerball: 65 feet
SPARQ Rating: 87.90
Trice went onto say, “Jordan is a very explosive athlete that posted the highest SPARQ Rating this year (87.90). The best measurement of explosiveness is the vertical jump. His vertical jump is 38.8 inches, which is higher than Jacoby Ellsbury's vertical jump (recorded in 2008). I consider 30 inches in the vertical jump to be the threshold before I consider an athlete to be "very explosive," and Jordan smashed this threshold by over 8 inches.”
Jordan, an outfielder, will graduate in 2013 from Dr. Charles Best high school and will play for the Reds again this summer before making a decision on his post secondary education.
