
On Sunday the Pee Wee Cloverdale Spurs, represented BC at the Western Canadian Championships in Saskatoon and won the gold medal with a 9-5 win.
After finishing 2-1 in the round robin the Pee Wees blasted Sherwood Park of Alberta 11-5 to reach the championship game against the host Saskatoon Blue Jays.
In the final, the Jays would jump out in front first, scoring three times in the top of the third off starter Wesley Moore, who would last four innings.
The lead didn’t last long, in the bottom of the inning BC would put four on the board. BC would send nine men to the plate, as Spencer Pawliw hit a two run double to bring the club within one. Then a two out, two-run single by Tre Pankratz gave BC their first lead of the finale.
The Jays would score single runs in the top of the fourth and fifth to regain the lead, before BC would take it right back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth. A lead-off homerun from Rhys Cratty would tie the game, then three batters later Pankratz doubled in Moore to give BC the lead for good.
In the bottom of the sixth, BC put the game out of reach with three more runs. A two-run double from Pawliw and RBI single from Moore would secure the gold medal.
Pawliw finished the game with two hits and four RBIs while Pankratz also had two hits and three RBIs.
Dylan Kirby recorded the win, throwing three innings out of the pen. He would give up a run on four hits, while striking out three. The starter Moore would strike out nine.
