
Baseball BC was well represented at the most recent Junior National Team evaluation camp in Orlando.
Six players saw action during the exhibition series, as they all try and win a spot on Team Canada’s roster for this year’s IBAF 18U World Championships in Chinese Taipei beginning August 30, 2013.
The Juniors would play seven games against Major League teams and their top prospects. They would face the prospects of the Atlanta Braves (2), Detroit Tigers, Toronto Blue Jays, Washington Nationals (2) and Houston Astros (2).
Tyler O’Neill (Maple Ridge) finished the Orlando tournament 10/26 with a double, triple, three RBIs and three runs scored.
Lachlan Fontaine (North Vancouver) 3/21 with four RBIs, a double and two runs scored
Kurtis Kostuk (Abbotsford) was 3/12 with two RBIs and a run scored at the plate. On the bump he threw five innings, allowed six hits, two runs and struck out five.
Morgan Lofstrom (Kelowna) collected five hits in 21 plate appearances with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
Connor Noble (Vancouver) would throw five innings, allowed nine hits, five runs, struck out four and walked four.
Kurtis Horne (Sooke) also threw five innings, allowing eight hits, four earned runs, fanned three, while walking two.
Next up for the Junior National team is a trip to the Dominican to play 12 games against more top prospects May 22. The games are part of the Dominican Summer League.
Team Canada will open the World Junior Baseball Championships on Friday August 30 against an opponent yet to be determined. The Canadians are coming off a terrific 2012 tournament in which they finished with a silver medal.
